Bath Swim Therapy’s holiday sessions

Bath Swim Therapy is a community initiative that bring together three other groups (Splashers, Get West Set and Bath Holiday Swim Therapy) to enable even more disabled people to have the opportunity to swim. The organisation's driving force is Pamela Galloway, a physiotherapist & Halliwick swimming instructor. You can see more about all the sessions on offer at

Holiday Swim Therapy

The summer 2014  sessions will run from 28 July  – 14 August as follows:

  • Mondays: 1.30 - 4.00 in the Learner Pool at Longwell Green Leisure Centre, BS15 9LA
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays: 10.00 - 1.00 in the hydrotherapy pool at Three Ways School, Odd Down, Bath BA2 5RF

These sessions are  a wonderful opportunity for disabled & special needs children to have a 20-min specialised one to one swimming lesson or hydrotherapy with a physiotherapist who has also trained in teaching swimming to disabled. Three Ways School hydrotherapy pool has fully accessible changing facilities so are suitable for any child whatever their level of disability or special need, while Longwell Green has an accessible changing room with a stretcher but there is no hoist into the Learner Pool – for more information see below.

If the parents/carer go in the water, they can learn how to support their child & can stay in for up to an hour. Other members of the familiy are also welcome so the whole family can have the chance to swim together - additional children will need to be accompanied by another adult unless they are confident swimming in 1.2m deep water.

Families need to book specific date(s) and time(s) and as usual we are asking for a contribution of up to £5 per session to help cover the cost of running the sessions.

New to Holiday Swim Therapy sessions?

Holiday sessions are different from our term time sessions in that they happen 4 days a week and there are no groups. Each session is divided into 20 min one-to-one slots which you can use for swimming instruction or hydrotherapy or a bit of both.

Three Ways School hydrotherapy pool – for those not familiar with this pool, it is 5m X 4m and 1.2m deep overall with water at 32 - 33º. Changing rooms are fully accessible and include stretchers & a tracking hoist into the pool.In this pool siblings & other members of the family are welcome (within reason) provided we have enough space but all children who are not confident in 1.2m deep water must have another adult with them - sorry we don't have any volunteers to help with this.

Longwell Green – these session take place during a normal public session in the Learner Pool at Longwell Green Leisure Centre.  This pool has wide steps to a large shallow area and water at about 31º. It is ideal for working on shallow water activities with you and your child as well as deeper water work. The accessible changing room has a stretcher but no hoist and there is no hoist into the Learner Pool. We also do have the option of using the Main Pool for children who are more able and can cope with the cooler water. Other children under 8 are welcome in the Learner pool – over 8s can go in the main pool – but parents/carers are responsible for all of them so you they undoubtedly want to bring another adult to help with any additional children. There is no additional charge for the sessions in Longwell Green - they just pay for the normal swim ticket. There is a concession for disabled children, no charge for their adult and under 3s are all free.
